STONEPARK WIN INTERMEDIATE AA BASKETBALL GOLD!

The Stonepark girls won the PEISAA 2019 Domino's Intermediate AA basketball championship with a victory over Summerside Intermediate. East Wiltshire defeated Birchwood for Bronze. For a complete recap, click on Read More.

Following is the recap of games at the PEISAA 2019 Intermediate AA Girls Basketball Championships played at Stonepark on February 22 & 23:

Girls Semi-final #1 Stonepark vs East Wiltshire
The first semi-final of the day saw #1 seed Stonepark defeat East Wiltshire Worriors 58-20. Both team had a slow start with Stonepark ahead after the first quarter 7-6. Katie Vidito put the Tigers out front at the half with 11 of the teams 23 points. The Tigers led 23-12 at the half. Stonepark kept the lead for the entire game. Katie Vidito led the Tigers with 14 while Dara Mccabe added 12. Keera Vos led the Warriors with 10.
 
Girls Semi #2 Summerside Intermediate vs Birchwood
Summerside Intermediate led in the first quarter and didn’t look back as they defeated Birchwood 49-18. SIS’s Reghan Betts  led all scorers with 19 points and Paige MacLean scored 16. Nelly Johnston led Birchwood scorers with 5.  The score was 29-6 at the half.
 
Girls Bronze
The East Wiltshire Warriors girls captured the bronze medal at the PEISAA championships on Saturday by defeating Birchwood Cobras in a tight game 31-30. The game was tied 16-16 at half time. Emily Thistle hit two foul shots that proved to be the game winner. Birchwood’s Isabelle McGeoghan scored a 3 pointer with 11 seconds to go and then drained two free throws but the Cobras’ efforts fell short as EWS protected the lead to the buzzer.
 
Girls Gold
Stonepark Tigers took a comfortable 16-6 lead in the first quarter and never looked back as they defeated Summerside Intermediate 59-35 in the gold medal PEISAA final.  Sydney Lawlor led the Tigers with 18 points while Dara McCabe added 12 and Ava Sinnott with 10. Stonepark had its largest lead at the end of the third quarter outscoring SIS 53-26.
Stonepark’s patience on offence and smothering defence earned them the #1 seed spot heading into the provincials.  Paige MacLean was top scorer for Summerside with 17 and Alyssa Richard added 7.
