P.E.I.S.A.A. 50th Anniversary Milestone.
 
The 2011-12 School Year is a very significant milestone for the Prince Edward Island School Athletic Association as the Membership recognizes the 50th Anniversary of the Organization and structured school sport in the province.  In June-2012 the PEISAA will hold its 50th Annual  Meeting.
 
A meeting in December of 1961 formed the Prince Edward Island Interscholastic Athletic Association (PEIIAA).  It was organized to be the governing body for all school sports in Prince Edward Island.  The first Executive consisted of Charles Ballem, A.J. MacAdam, Rev. Francis Cameron, Bob Mills, Reg Pendergast, Don LeClair, and Dave Boswell.  In 1972 the name was changed to the PEI Physical Education Association Interscholastic Committee.  In 1974 the name was modified to the Prince Edward Island School Athletic Association, with its role of administering school sport in the Province.

Since 1961, the Prince Edward Island School Athletic Association, has been an informal organization of educators which has undertaken the task of governing school sports in Prince Edward Island.  The PEISAA is an alliance of the member schools in Prince Edward Island, the provincial school boards and the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. The PEISAA provides and coordinates the educational and administrative services for the provincial school boards in governing school sport in Prince Edward Island.

The PEISAA provides interscholastic competition for 65 Member Schools, through 6 - age classifications, in 14 individual and team sports, to 10,000 + student athletes, offering 90 championships, and all supported by a dedicated group of educators and volunteers promoting the "Education through School Sport" philosophy.
